Ian McKellen is set to host a charity gala to raise money for a new theatre in north London.
The proceeds from the gala, which is on October 19, will go towards Park Theatre’s Education Floor Fund, which will be used to create a floor for community projects at the Finsbury Park venue.
Benedict Cumberbatch, along with actors Celia Imrie, Tobias Menzies, Romola Garai and director Sean Mathias will each entertain a table of guests at the event, which is to be held at Shakespeare’s Globe theatre.
Meanwhile, author and former politician Jeffrey Archer will be the guest auctioneer and celebrity photographer Richard Young will photograph the event.
Auction prizes from Stephen Fry, hotels The Ritz London, The Savoy and The Athenaeum, plus from private members’ club Quintessentially, drinks company Compass Box Whisky, tailors Spencer Hart and travel firm American Airlines have been donated so far.
The 200-seat theatre and 80-seat studio venue is set to open later this year.
Tickets for the gala cost £195 per person and can be bought by emaling gala@parktheatre.co.uk.
